Prerequisites:
In order to follow the module, it is recommended to have basic competences within discrete mathematics (corresponding to 5 ECTS).


Content - Key areas:
A first introduction to probability and statistics, this course provides background to understand and produce rigorous statistical analysis, including design of experiments, estimation, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Applicability and limitations of these methods will be illustrated in the light of modern data sets and manipulation using statistical software. Precepts are based on real data analysis.

  • choose an appropriate experimental design in respect to a given task

Form of instruction:
The teaching is organized in accordance with the DSMI.
A more detailed description of the form of instruction will be apparent from the module plan.

Regular evaluations:
The student’s proficiency and participation is evaluated regularly through a number of activities which are gathered in the student’s individual portfolio.

Examination conditions:
Completion of mandatory activities is a prerequisite to attend the exam. An example of a completion of a mandatory activity is the submission of assignments on time and in accordance with the requirements specified at the start of the semester.

Evaluation
Written examination of 120 minutes without aids except one A4-paper with formulas. Internal grading according to the Danish 7-point grading scale.
