The course is building on the skills and knowledge obtained in the mandatory courses.


Purpose:
Topics in Marketing, Innovation, Sports and Event Management is a special course of study used as an umbrella for students writing a paper in a topic of their own choice. Hence it is possible for the students to work on a topic where there is not enough students to justify lecture series. The subject of the paper must be accepted beforehand by a faculty member who acts as a supervisor.
The purpose of the course is to provide the students with knowledge about how a marketing, innovation, sports or event  management topic can be analysed and with skills in fulfilling such an analysis. The students are given competences in managing complex marketing, innovation, sports or event management issues.

Content - Key areas:
An analysis of a marketing, innovation, sports or event management topic of own choice.

Goals description (SOLO taxonomy):
The students should be able to
• Identify, formulate and define an issue (the student must be able to make their own presentation of the problem definition)
• Identify and describe relevant literature for the analysis
• Identify and reflect upon relevant methods for the analysis
• Analyse the chosen problem based on the approved problem definition
• Evaluate the findings and discuss possible implications
• Formulate in writing a presentation of the problem area, analysis and findings in a scientific, clear and correct language.

The ultimate goal of this course is to give students the ability to analyse a problem within marketing, innovation, sports or event management theory or practice and to present their findings in writing.

Literature:
The extent of the literature will vary, but in general the number of pages have to match other courses at 7,5 ECTS. 
Further, the literature has to be agreed with the supervisor.

Time of classes:
Autumn.

Scheduled classes:
No lectures only supervision. Supervision after appointment.

Form of instruction:
The students who want to prepare a Topics paper should contact a faculty member (to become the supervisor) to discuss the subject and content of the topic. The topic must be agreed with the supervisor who may also provide a list of possible required readings. The extent of the paper is 20 standard pages at most without table of content, list of reference and appendix.

Time of examination:
Ordinary exam in January and reexam in June or ordinary exam in June and reexam in January.

Registration for the course is automatically a registration for the ordinary examination in the course. Cancellation is not possible. If the student does not participate in the examination, the student will use an examination attempt.
The university may grant an exemption from the rules in case of exceptional circumstances.

Number of pages: The extent of the paper is 20 standard pages at most without table of content, list of reference and appendix. A standard page is 2400 keystrokes inclusive space. A table or figure is 400 keystrokes. The amount of keystrokes shall appear at the frontpage. Please read the general requirements for written assignments (in English) on the website about exam information.
Examination aids: All examination aids are permitted.

If the exam is failed, a new assignment has to be written. The assignment can be written within the same topic as the former assignment.
